Time for a post for the next challenge for the Colour INKspiration Facebook group. These colour challenges are the ones that I like to participate in the most. Now and then I make a card that I really, really like, and I really the card I have made for this challenge.
The colours for challenge #31 are: Old Olive, Cajun Craze, Crushed Curry and Tempting Turquoise.
I had an idea in mind when I saw the colour palette for this challenge. My inspiration came from a card I saw either on Facebook or Pinterest. But I wanted to change things up. A lot. So that is what I did.
I started by rummaged around in my embellishment stash. Because there is a new Stampin’ Up! annual catalogue coming out soon, I am trying to used up as many items that will be retiring in all projects that I am making at the moment. I decided to use the soon-to-be retired Eastern gold vinyl stickers and Glitter and Clear epoxy shapes. While I was rummaging in my stash, I found these turquoise glitter brads that have been retired for years. These brads are going to work perfectly with what I had planned.
The main feature panel of my card is a water lily on water. I was originally going to make my main panel out of Old Olive card stock with some kind of water pattern sponged on with Tempting Turquoise ink. But while I was trying to deciding how I was going to achieve this, I spotted a piece of watercolour card stock that I had been experimenting with Brusho. The Brusho colours I used on this particular panel was Mossy Green and Prussian Blue. The more I looked at it, the more I knew that this Brusho piece was going work better than anything I could produce with Old Olive card stock and sponging.
To create my water lily flower with the Eastern Medallion thinlits out of Whisper White card stock. I backed the centre cuts outs with Crushed Curry card stock. I finished off the flower with Eastern gold sticker and sponging the edges of the petals with Old Olive card stock. The leaf is a circle of Old Olive card stock with a wedge cut out. A gold sticker and some sponging with Tempting Turquoise ink finished off the leaf. I added some Glitter and Clear epoxy shapes to the leaf and flower. I added some more Easter Gold stickers on to the water. I cut out a dragonfly out of turquoise glimmer paper from the Myths and Magic Glimmer paper stack. A strip of window sheet is attached to the card so that the dragonfly hovers over the water lily.
Hint: I find it much easier to place the Eastern Gold stickers on the card stock and then cut out my desired shape. Especially when the stickers require precise placement. Once these stickers touch card stock, there’s no lifting them to reposition.
I used Cajun Craze card stock with more Easter gold stickers to make a border as a matt for my main feature panel. The feature panel is attached to the matt with the glitter brads that I found. Every thing was then attached to a Crushed Curry card base.
