Colour INKspiration #59 Blog Hop

Welcome to another Colour INKspriation blog hop. Today the blog hop starts with my blog again.

The colours for this challenge are: Seaside Spray, Smoky Slate, Very Vanilla and Early Espresso. You may add Whisper White, Very Vanilla, Basic Black, Crumb Cake and metallics to your project. We also allow ‘Ivory’ in the Stampin’ Blends. If you don’t have all the colour palette, feel free to use the closest SU substitute.
For this challenge I ended up making two cards.  For My first card I decided to use some retired Bundle of Love DSP that have been #loveitchopit. I used the the Tasteful Backgrounds dies to cut a design into the DSP, backed it with Seaside Spray card stock and mounted both to a gold foil-edged note card.

I cut out a label from Very Vanilla card stock using a Stitched Nested Labels die and edged the label using the retired gold Wink of Stella. The sentiment comes from the Free as a Bird stamp set, stamped in VersaMark ink and heat embossed with gold embossing powder.  The cat stamp comes from the Nine Lives stamp set. I stamped the cat in Early Espresso ink and coloured it with Blends markers listed below. The flowers and branch stamps are from Free as a Bird stamp set and were stamped in Basic Black archival ink.  I coloured the flowers and branch with Seaside Spray and Early Espresso ink with a blending pen. It doesn’t show very well in the photo but the centre of the flowers have a touch of gold Wink of Stella.

I got the idea for my second card while driving early one morning. It was a morning with a heavy fog. The sun was a white ball of light which was almost totally obscured by the fog. The skeletons of deciduous trees peaked out from the mist as we got closer to them. I already had the first card in progress but knew I just had to make another using the challenge colours.  The colour scheme is perfect for my idea.

The layout for this card was inspired by a card made by Vanessa Webb, another Australian Stampin’ Up! demonstrator. I used another piece of Bundle of Love DSP and mounted it on to a thick Very Vanilla card base. I cut out a label out of Whisper White card stock using the largest die from the Stitched Nested Labels dies and trimmed the end to create a banner shape. I cut out a circle from a post it note using a small circle punch and used as a mask on the banner. I used a sponge brayer to apply Smoky Slate ink on the banner.  The trees are stamped in Early Expresso ink that has been stamped off using a stamp from the retired Lovely as a Tree stamp set.  I matted the banner with Seaside Spray card stock and mounted this to the card. Woven Threads trim and a retired ribbon were added to the top edge of the banner. The birds sitting on the branch is another stamp from the Free as a Bird stamp set. They have been coloured with the same technique I used on the flowers and branch on my first card. I used a retire glitter enamel dot for a touch of bling.

Used in these projects:

Paper: Seaside Spray, Very Vanilla, thick Very Vanilla, Whisper White, gold foil-edged note card and envelope, Bundle of Love DSP (retired)

Ink: VersaMark, Seaside Spray, Smoky Slate, Early Espresso, Basic Black archival (retired)

  1. Gorgeous cards, Cathy. The Seaside Spray looks fabulous teamed up with gold. Love cats and birds both so can’t decide on a favourite! x

  2. Two wonderful cards Cathy. Impossible to pick between them for favourite, maybe the birds by a whisker/beak. I do love the colour in the cat’s eyes.

  3. I love the misty trees – 2 stunning and so different cards!! What a great way to use these colours.
